X-Men: The New Recruits

Post by Pyro on Thu Mar 20, 2008 4:55 am

Is there enough people interested in an X-Men RP for this to work?

Story:
With the recent defeat of Magneto by the X-Men, Professor Xavier has decided to recruit some new mutants to the school.

Here's a basic template for your character. You can use an existing X-Man or make a new mutant. You can come up with any power you want, but try to keep it somewhat reasonable. Otherwise, try not to make a character with God-like powers. (Brotherhood [evil mutants] might be included later.)

Code Name:

(awsome idea john!)

Code Name: Slipstream (thank u john)

Name: Michael Shepard

Age: 15

Power: Teleportation, and super strength (around spider-man's strenght level)

Location: X-mansion

Appearance: 5'10, athletic build, handsome, dark brown hair, hazel eyes.

Occupation: student

Background: Michael was always the guy that got along with everyone. he never liked to be in confrontation with anyone and would forgive and forget. Michael powers developed in small steps. After the first time he teleported he felt amazed. He had heard about mutants and was proud to be one, Michael continued trying to better control his teleporting. On one occasion Michael (thinking he had teleporting mastered) jumped off a 5 story building ready to teleport to safety. He failed to teleport, and under the imense sudden shock of stress, he developed super strength. Michael hit the ground without any injury. Michael now tries to help out others in secret, hoping to find something that can help him help others.

Alright, if you'll have me, I'll join.

Code Name: Skyscar

Name: Matthew Adams

Age: 16

Power: Half-dragon (permanent transformation); flight; powers change as he gets older.

Location: Streets of New York City

Appearance: 5' 9", black hair, brown eyes, black dragon wings, black dragon tail (physiology changes as time progresses and he gets older).

Occupation: Wanderer

Background: Matthew Adams was born fairly normal, though his parents divorced when he was young. His powers-more specifically, his physiology- began to develop once he turned 13. At 15, his wings were fully developed and he taught himself to fly, though Matthew is well aware he has a lot to learn yet. After that, however, he couldn't stay in school and he left that same year. He lived with his mother for a while until she was tragically killed, after which he left his home and staked a life on the streets, unsure of how to use his new abilities.

Matthew is rather outgoing and loves to meet new people despite his obvious change in appearance. He's not very tactful, however, and he will say what he wants. He's also a bit brash and likes to play the hero.

Code Name:Shadowcat

Name:Kitty Pryde

Age:15 1/2

Power:phasing

Location:X-mansion

Appearance:
or

Occupation:Student

Background:(I'm gonna get this from Wikipedia b/c theres alot I dont remember)

Katherine Anne "Kitty" Pryde was born in Deerfield, Illinois to Carmen and Theresa Pryde. Of Jewish descent, her paternal grandfather, Samuel Prydeman, was held in a Nazi concentration camp during World War II. Kitty started to have headaches at age thirteen, headaches which signaled the emergence of her mutant powers. She was approached by both
the X-Men's Charles Xavier and the Hellfire Club's White Queen, Emma Frost,
both of whom hoped to recruit her for their respective causes. Kitty
was unnerved by Frost, observing that the White Queen had looked at her
as if she were "something good to eat." She got along better with
Xavier and the three X-Men who escorted him to his meeting with her and
her parents, becoming fast friends with Ororo Munroe.
Ororo told Kitty who she really was and about the X-Men, which made the
teenager even more enthusiastic about attending Xavier's school.
Their conversation was cut short, however, when they (along with Wolverine and Colossus) were attacked by armored mercenaries
in the employ of Frost and the Hellfire Club. The X-Men defeated their
assailants, but were subdued by the White Queen's telepathic powers
immediately after. In the confusion, Kitty had become separated from
the X-Men and therefore was not captured along with them. She managed
to contact Cyclops, Phoenix, and Nightcrawler. With the help of Dazzler and Pryde, those X-Men rescued their teammates and Xavier (who had also been captured).
The White Queen appeared to perish in the battle, which meant she
was no longer competing with Xavier for the approval of Kitty's
parents. Unfortunately, Kitty's parents hadn't heard from her in more
than a day, because during that time she was first being pursued by the
Hellfire Club's men and then working with the X-Men to save their
friends. All they knew was that Kitty had left with Xavier's "students"
to get a soda, there had been reports that the soda shop had been blown
up, and that Kitty had been missing since. Understandably, they were
angry at Xavier when he finally returned with Kitty in tow. At first,
it seemed like there was no chance of Kitty being allowed to attend the
school and join the X-Men. Phoenix then decided to use her considerable
telepathic power to erase the memories of Kitty's parents and plant
false ones, resulting in a complete shift in their attitude towards
Xavier. Questions concerning the morality of tampering with minds in
such a fashion aside, Kitty was then allowed to enroll at Xavier's
school with her parents' blessing. She was the youngest person to join
the X-Men up to that point.

X-MEN!!!!!!!! >o< YEEEEAAAHHH!!!

Code Name: MP3

Name: Jara Stein

Age: 17

Power: being able to warp her voice in any way she pleases to emit piercing shrieks, impossibly low growls, perfectly emulate an airplane, whistling kettle, electric guitar, etc., and many other ways that can either damage, or that are just for effect.

Location: Xavier Institute

Appearance: Shoulder-length, layered red hair and dark blue eyes.

Occupation: student

Background: Jara was adopted when she was three years old by a well-to-do couple, who were promised a sweet, well-behaved child. Which she was, until she grew older and her more "wild" streak grew more prominent. She never became a "bad girl", but her parents still grew a bit distant towards her; she was just a tad too different from their slightly old-fashioned views of what children should be. When she was seven, her little brother Nicholas was born and took up all of their time, but she didn't mind; she was very attached to him, too.

When she turned thirteen, she lost her voice.... for a whole year. Her parents were frantic and took her to all the doctors around, but they were all stumped; she wasn't sick, and nothing was wrong with her that they could find. The best they could do was prescribe plenty of rest and a special inhaler, which never did anything. Jara had to carry around a notebook in order to say what she wanted to say, which annoyed her.

Shortly after her fourteenth birthday, a bald-headed man came calling. He introduced himself as Professor Xavier, saying that he had been informed of her "malady" by one of his colleagues, a doctor they had visited. He suggested that she might be able to recover if she received treatment at his school, and her parents agreed.

Jara did not want to leave her school and home, and was furious at not being given a choice in the matter. As a result she was extremely rebellious and set up one outrageous prank after another all around the school. She was even more motivated in her behavior once she learned the true purpose of the school: to train and protect mutants. Shocked by this revelation and repulsed by the strange appearances of some of the students, she was driven into denial about why she was accepted into the school, sure that it was all a big mistake, venting her confusion, anger and frustration on her teachers and fellow students. Throughout it all Professor Xavier refrained from punishing her, as he knew why she was acting that way, which made her even madder. She wanted a confrontation; for something to happen which would mean something bad for someone other than herself.

While setting up yet another prank, Jara fell from a third-story balcony inside the mansion. She screamed, and all the glass around her instantly shattered.

Jara woke up in the infirmary with a broken leg, an injured back, and Professor Jean Grey waiting to break the news to her: Jara Stein was indeed a mutant. With her fall and her scream, her voice had returned like never before.

Once she realized that she was a mutant and that there was no changing the fact, Jara began to cope with her situation and accept the strangeness of both herself and the school's inhabitants. Eventually reverting back to her fun-loving self, who pranked out of mischief, not vengeance, she came to genuinely like her powers and totally accept the mutant community.

On account of her injured spine, Jara now has to use a wheelchair to get around. Fortunately, it's only temporary- the wheelchair she needs for three weeks, while she must wear a cast on her leg for nine. She makes light of her situation by perfectly imitating an abulance whenever she's cruising down crowded hallways.

lol, why not

Code Name: Boo
Name: Booze Mortinson

Age: 19

Power: shadow possession: when someone's shadow crosses her own she can bind the two to freeze that person's shadow or force them to imitate her own movements (like Shikamaru in Naruto)

Location: Xavier's school

Appearance: Very short blond hair and green eyes

Occupation: student

Background: Booze was named and raised by two very dysfunctional individuals. She noticed the strange behavior of her own shadow early on, but ignored it because she assumed her parents' insanity was likely rubbing off on her. However, when she realised the full implications of what she could do she began using it to her advantage.

Her family had never had much money and her parents were loath to give up the income that could be spent on her namesake. She got a job bussing tables when she was thirteen, which she gave up soon after she realised that her shadow could help her get money an easier way. She became a minor thief, controlling her victims with her shadow to make them close their eyes and throw their wallets to her. It took her parents months to realise that their daughter had a very high income for a waitress, and her secret was discovered soon after that. Her parents found Xavier's school during a search for somewhere to send troubled youths.

Somehow word about her past had preceded her, so she endures the odd looks of other mutants in the hallway. She has no difficulty ignoring them because living with her parents had taught her to become a loner.

I don't think so. I guess it depends on how you use your character. I just didn't want anyone trying to pull off a Superman-like character. "Ooh, look at me, I have no supervillains that can actually challenge me without pulling out a chunk of kryptonite and I have a kajillion powers [flight, super strength, super speed, super hearing, impervious to harm, ice breath, heat vision, x-ray vision, and I think I'm forgetting one]."

Anyways, here's my character:
I'd give a pic but my stupid CoV isn't working right.

Code Name: Vitron

Name: Alex Carter

Age: 18

Power: Electric manipulation and control.

Location: Chicago

Appearance: 5'9", Silver hair and his right eye is completely silver (part of his mutation), average build,

Occupation: Student

Background: A senior in high school, he first discovered his powers a year ago. He was walking home during the summer when a power cable snapped and landed on him. He absorbed all the energy from the cable, activating his powers and blacking out the entire neighborhood. As soon as this happened his right eye turned completely sliver (color, not metal), and has never changed back. He never really adjusted to what happened to his eye, but his parents just kept saying that it was a miracle he could still see. He couldn't figure out whether his parents were really that dim-witted or if they were in denial that he was a mutant. He didn't realize how much this changed his life until he went back to school. People who had once been friends wouldn't talk to him, people he knew since elementary school wouldn't even give him a second look. He spent his senior year alone. Then, one day, everything changed...

I do like all the original characters in this RP, but we need some people to play canonial X-Men as well (such as Kitty playing...Kitty) or we're going to have a lot of NPCs with which to work. Pyro, what say you to that?

Yeah.. I thought it would be better to be a made up character, because you can be who you want and aren't limited to somebody else's personality (unless you want to roleplay as them, of course).

And then people could also control the non-chosen actual X-Men characters however and when they need to, keeping their proper personalities when they do use them.

Once I have the time, and imagination to do so, I should be participating in this RP too. But I don't think I'll be doing so yet (so don't worry about waiting for me, before you start). I'll just edit this post once I have decided upon my guy, and then start RPing with him and point to this post in case people haven't read my character info yet.
