Book Club?

Post by Akkarin on Wed Feb 27, 2008 3:39 am

Just a random thought.. once everyone is finished with the books they are reading at the moment, would any members be interested in starting and participating in a forum held book club? We can give a month to read the book decided upon and at the end of each month hold a "meeting" to discuss the title in a specific thread created for it.

The monthly deadline gives people time to read any other books they want to, so that the books in the club don't take all of their free/reading time (like if it was held every week or something). Also for slow readers (or those with little free time), a month would be better. Wouldn't want to put pressure on any people. Wink

Also, we can have separate threads for choosing what to read each month. That way, the books forum isn't barren anymore. And it would avoid clutter if all suggestions, debates and decisions were kept in another thread, away from the actual book discussion.

So what do you guys think? I think it could work, if we put in the effort to participate. Smile

Ooooh, I think that would be fun!!! santa I'd be willing to give it a shot! And a month would give people time to get to the library or book store and stuff if they couldn't right away.

Would it be like a book "dissection", or just "I thought this character was cool because of their military genius, even if he was evil" type discussion? Just curious. ^___^

I'd like the discussions to have some depth and substance... so both? ^_^ Any input from people who've read the book is welcome!

I'll read what ya say, but I probably won't join in. I usually read a book for a bit of entertainment, I don't wanna dissect it Razz

A book club is a brilliant idea, very fun and interactive! ^^

Sadly, I don’t think I have the freedom right now to run out to a bookstore or library every month, so I guess I won’t be participating in the book discussions. Sad

Would it be possible for me to join in on the fun if/when the opportunity presented itself?

Anyone can join in whenever they want. Smile Just make sure to be reading the book that is to be discussed at the end of the month!

And you can't go to the library once a month? Surprised

Well, I sure can't now. My mom chopped my card up after the library sent a notice-thing to a crediting-company-thing for a $65 fine I hadn't paid yet. If I'd known they did that I would've paid sooner, but.... T__T I thought I'd just do it when I went back for more books.

Pms please. I want to keep this thread mainly to the book club talks. Smile

Also, if people want to recommend any books for March, PM me (even if you aren't going to attend the book club for that month).

Once I have made notes of them, I'll create a topic at the start of the month with a poll. The winner of the poll is the book that'll be chosen and read, then discussed.

Well, so much for that idea.

Want us to start sending you PMs for suggestions for April?

Nah. I think we'll forget this book club idea. It seems pretty much like a failure! Laughing

We'll just leave the book suggestions thread open to recommend books to others.

Awww it would have been a good idea!
But I suppose if not enough people want to be involved, it is fair enough...
